“One of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector Venom.”
Venom is a Spiderman spin-off based on the Marvel comics villain and anti-hero of the same name. Venom is a sentient alien Symbiote with an amorphous, liquid-like form, which requires a host, usually human, to bond with for its survival. After bonding, the symbiote transfers enhanced abilities and increased strength to the host.
Venom was first seen on the big screen back in Spiderman 3 of the Sam Rami trilogy. In the movie, Venom assimilates with Spiderman as he sleeps, changing his suit black and giving him enhanced powers. It also brings out Spiderman’s dark side. Spiderman eventually breaks the bond with the Symbiote, who then finds a new host in Peter Parker’s rival photographer and nemesis, Eddie Brock.
“You’re Eddie Brock. I’m the symbiote. Together we are Venom.”
The spin-off will center on the character Eddie Brock as the Venom host, with English actor Tom Hardy, playing the dual roles of Brock and Venom. Hardy was fitted with a motion-capture suit for his performance as Venom, with pleasing visuals as we can see in the official Venom trailer below.
Sony has the rights for Spiderman via an unprecedented deal with Marvel, and the new Venom movie will mark the start of what Sony considers its own Marvel universe, separate from the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” as created by Marvel and Disney.
Ruben Fleischer was signed to direct the movie from a screenplay by Kelly Marcel, Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner, and Will Beall. Fleischer’s directorial experience includes Zombieland (2009) and Gangster Squad (2013). Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Matt Tolmach will produce.
The first look at some of the Venom imagery occured at the Brazilian Comic Convention back in January this year. It is in Brazil that the movie will be released a day early on October 4, 2018. The movie will then premiere in the U.S on the 5th of October.
